Empowering Women with Project Flamingo

But every now and then, something cuts through the chaos. A moment that reminds you why the grind matters. A moment where impact goes beyond contracts and KPIs, and touches actual lives.

This Women’s Day, we got one of those moments.

Project Flamingo: Dignity in Recovery

Nexubis had the privilege of collaborating with the Cape West Region Girl Guides on Project Flamingo - an initiative in partnership with Operation Flamingo that delivers pamper packs to women recovering from breast cancer surgeries.

These surgeries often happen after long waits in South Africa’s public health system, performed voluntarily by doctors after hours. The work is life-changing. Not just medically, but emotionally.

Because every woman who comes out of theatre deserves more than treatment. She deserves dignity, comfort, and care.

Our Role in the Initiative

This year, we rolled up our sleeves. Our design team created the badges for the Girl Guides’ uniforms… small, tangible reminders of milestones achieved. We also designed the stickers for the care pack giftbags, adding a touch of personality and warmth to every pack. We donated towards the pamper packs, covering most of the water bottles. And on Women’s Day, our team joined the Guides and Rangers in Pinelands to help package the packs.

It wasn’t glamorous work. Just folding tables, goodie bags, and a room full of people determined to lift others up.

One of the most meaningful moments? Seeing Chloë, one of our designers, there not just as part of Nexubis but as a Ranger Adult Leader herself. Wearing both hats, designer and volunteer, she embodied exactly what this project is about: bridging personal values with professional skills.

Why This Matters for Founders

I’ve written before about why founders keep showing up even when the job sucks: because the reason outweighs the grind.

This is the same principle, just applied differently. The reason we build at Nexubis isn’t only about growth or design excellence. It’s about impact. About creating opportunities… for our team, our clients, and, when possible, our communities.

And here’s the truth: contributions like these are only possible because of the trust and partnerships we have with our clients.
