Dick Proves the Agency Stereotype

Let’s talk about agencies. The stereotype exists for a reason. You pay. They promise the world. Then they vanish like socks in a tumble dryer. Trust evaporates and you are left holding a pretty PDF and a headache.
We poked at this in our tongue-in-cheek video about a guy named Dick. Short for Richard, of course. Dick is the “design and development partner” who sprints off the map the second payment clears. It is satire, but also a documentary.
This year we had our own “Dick moment”. We were packed with client work and needed help shipping some internal design. We did the decent thing and handed another agency a monster brief. Context for days. References. Concepts. The whole buffet.
Revision one landed and my jaw hit the desk. I told them it was thirty percent of the way there. Round two did not move the needle. By round three they wanted to add seventy percent to the invoice “to get it across the line.” Meanwhile the work had AI tells all over it. Slides were not even numbered correctly. Slop. We never saw a proper final. Money gone. Progress zero.
That is why the agency stereotype refuses to die. No ownership. No care. No pride. Just ship something, ask for more, disappear. Some agencies simply do not give a shit.
Nexubis exists to be the opposite. You do not need a vendor. You need a partner who plugs into your team, thinks with you, and stays after launch to keep momentum. That is the job.
What companies keep running into
The agency stereotype
Overpromises, surprise costs, people who do not understand your vision, results that miss the point.
Post-launch drop-off
Work ships, support fades, nobody owns enablement or outcomes.
Awkward integration
Vendors force strange tools and rhythms. Handoffs break. Communication splinters.
Murky budgeting
Spend does not map to milestones. Scaling feels like guesswork.
Low visibility
No clean view of what is briefed, what is in progress, and what is blocked.
Slipping timelines
Priorities shift and the delivery pace cannot keep up.
How we fix it
In-house feel
We work inside your systems so it feels internal. Slack access, shared files, weekly check-ins, a client dashboard. Fewer handoffs. Faster decisions.
Long-term partnership
Retainers and roadmaps that keep initiatives moving. Ongoing enablement. Post-launch support. Clear owners from discovery to iteration.
Department-in-a-box
Project management, brand, web, motion, and strategy under one roof. Senior talent without the overhead. One source of truth.
What keeps us honest
Empowerment over transactions
Outcomes over invoices. We equip your team with clarity, playbooks, and durable assets so progress continues after delivery.
Resourcefulness and resilience
Constraints happen. We recalibrate and keep shipping. Momentum beats excuses.
Ownership and dependability
If our name is on it, we treat it like our own. Clear expectations, early communication, protected timelines.
Ever evolving
We learn from data and feedback, refine processes, and adopt better tools so your brand stays sharp.
Proof beats promises
Do not take my word for it. Read what real work looks like.
